My Students

Our school is an inner-city school with a diverse population. We have over 850 children walking through our hallways, speaking a variety of languages and coming from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Each day these students enter a safe learning environment and are greeted with smiles from dedicated, caring staff members.

I love to teach, and I want my students to love learning.

Language arts encompasses reading, writing and speaking, and I try to engage students by using the arts to enhance their learning. This is a challenge with a district that is underfunded. I appreciate the opportunity to help me help my students.

My Project

Purchasing blinds for the windows in my class will enable my students to learn in a more comfortable manner. Shades will alleviate the glare on the whiteboard and keep the blazing sun off of their faces. In addition, window coverings for the classroom will help to regulate the temperature in the room. Hot, sunny weather typically means a very hot classroom.

Not only will blinds ease the effects of the sun and provide a more conducive learning environment, they will also provide safety.

Right now, my windows are bare. During some emergency drills, it is important to have windows covered. Having blinds will give my students an added security.
