Our students are a special group of kids. Our town is a small section of a small rural school district (4400 students total). The town is committed to the education of their children and very involved in the school community. The majority of students in our school district come from low-income households; the average income in our district is $19,000 a year. All of our students receive free breakfast daily, and many receive free lunch as well.
My students are curious and engaged and love to learn through our classroom guidance sessions!
However, many of our students come to school without basic classroom supplies, and budgets for materials are limited.
My Project
There are so many issues related to drugs and drug use that surround our students today. The National Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week each year in October.
Help our students remain DRUG FREE with these books and tangible items that will help them to make sound decisions and remain DRUG FREE!!
Our students need encouragement and education that will help them make better choices. These books will give them real world situations that I can use to help guide them to make appropriate responses to their peers when asked about drugs or drug use. Each year, our students celebrate Red Ribbon Week with dress up days!! With these SAY NO TO DRUGS pencils, stickers, and bracelets, our students will have tangible and visible reinforcements. Using these visuals (bracelets, pencils, stickers) students will be able to continually display their DRUG FREE PRIDE!!
