The students I have had the pleasure teaching in New Haven are some of the most remarkable young men and women I have ever encountered. They come from incredibly diverse backgrounds, in both ethnicity and in economic status, though are united in community through their desire to learn and their aspiration for success.
Despite the economic hardships that many of my students deal with regularly, the qualities I admire most about them are their ability to persevere and their eagerness to take on new challenges.
As one teacher among many at our school, I want to provide my students with the type of education they so clearly deserve. They are in need of resources and experiences that will open up the door to their future endeavors and give them the courage to achieve their dreams.
At the Connecticut Fire Academy, students will be able to learn about emergency services related to fire prevention and control, including the responsibilities of a firefighter, and the career path one must take to get there.
By engaging with active firemen and learning about the field, students will be able to partake in activities related to their prospective career paths.
In addition, since many of the students attending are underclassmen, their participation in the trip to the Fire Academy will foster relationships with experts in the field, which will be of great assistance to them as they begin their endeavors in pursuit of public service careers.
