Ten years ago, our school was surrounded by tobacco fields; today our town is rapidly urbanizing. This growth has brought demographic changes to our school, and students represent an economic and sociological cross-section. What hasn't changed is our reliance on a strong sense of community. Students in our classroom share the common goal of succeeding in French.
My diverse students need equitable access to technology as they prepare for college applications and entry into the 21st century workplace.
Our school's new Bring Your Own Device policy has highlighted the need for ALL students to have access to technology.
My Project
French class is not just about reading; students need to practice speaking so they can really use the language. I want my students to record themselves speaking French throughout the school year. This will allow me to give individualized feedback and will help students see their own progress. Additionally, students can listen to authentic French media to improve listening skills and cultural knowledge. Unfortunately, not all students have access to the technology they need.
Kindle Tablets will allow every student to access authentic language materials, improving speaking, listening, and knowledge of French-speaking cultures.
This resource will help to improve students' French, but more importantly, will help prepare them to live and work in the 21st-century marketplace.
