Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

About My Students

Daniel, Makayla, Nathanae, Jaylin, Excell, Dameer, Nasma, Anthony, Mauricio, Bryan, Adaya, Brandon, Joshua, Damoy, Bryana, Kimorah, Tobias, Elijah, Danyel, Tahir, Tailhir and finally, Shanice!

These kids, boys and girls, are ready to get going on Amani's First FIRST LEGO TEAM COMPETITION. They've never done it before, but with the help of their coaches they know that they'll have a shot at winning a few meets.

As director of our After School Program, I thought it was time to give these kids something that will not only keep them busy, but excited. Having to build their on table and robots, and energize them to complete tasks, will address every part of their STEM education - Science, Technology, Electronics and Math. What's great is that most of the team is made up of 5th and 6th graders, so they will be able to grow with the team. They will be the process making decisions about every aspect of the build while assisting with spacing, organization, and even time management as we get closer to the competitions.

Teamwork, teamwork, and teamwork! Those are the goals for our First FIRST LEGO TEAM! Made up of 15 5th through 8th grade scholars, these kids will learn everything they need to know about science, technology, electronics and math - while working together to create phenomenal LEGO ROBOTS to compete with. To be successful, they will have to work together as a TEAM!

In Their Own Words

"When I get older I want to be a scientist and I think that the science, tech and math I learn here I could take and use it in the future for my projects."

"The goal that I am trying is to become good at building things to be very creative when I have a job. Also, to get even more inspired by Legos."

"My goal is to try to be able to program a robot."

"The goal I would wan't to accomplish in this event is to win and get money for school."

"I believe that the Lego Team will benefit academically, socially, and help with my skills at Legos."

"I will make the most of it by doing my best to make my parents proud and build my strengths."

"I would make the most leadership opportunity by practicing at home."

"I will use all of my leadership skills to win!"

"With this opportunity I can possibly lead another team and teach them."

"I would make the best of the leadership opportunity by using it to boost my self-confidence because I'm very shy and I doubt myself and I need to grow out of it."

"This is important to me because animals are getting hurt and killed by the garbage in our community but some people don't want to waste time picking up trash so we can build robots to pick up the trash for us and we can send them around the world to help pick up the trash for us."

"This is important to me because it can help my family and my community. Also, what every I get I can also share it with my school."

"This project is important to me because I can learn how to program robots."

"This project is important to my school and community because we can teach people to never give up."

"This will help me and the community by raising money to get the sorts of stuff we will need for this project. My project will solve a problem to boredom and depression and all other sorts of situations."
