Ms. King from Charlotte NC is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need the chance to attend an off-campus field trip to see Peter Pan.

Most of my second graders have never had the chance to attend an off-campus field trip. They are shocked by simple activities such as going to the library or eating at a restaurant. Their neighborhoods and their environment offer them such a limited worldview, one that is often violent and bleak.
Quite simply, my students are poor.
Several are homeless. Many receive their best meals at school. Often they are dirty or wearing clothes that are too big or too small for them. Holidays and birthdays are sparsely celebrated. But the beauty of the child is that my students are also so rich in spirit. They are rich in joy and a love of learning. They are resilient and happy. They easily give love to those who work with them.
By allowing us to go on this field trip, my students will get to experience theater in a way that they have never seen before. They will be able to see a production that will be unlike anything they've seen. So few of them are exposed to the things that many of us have taken for granted in our lives. Many of them will get the chance to venture off-campus and experience their first field trip. Ever.
Imagine your own childhood without any field trips, any opportunities to explore the world or experience culture.
My students would be awed by the chance to see this show, witness the music and dance, and get the chance to have a field trip. Even though it may seem simple to you, this one activity could be the difference between a child learning to love school and the world around him.
