My 5th grade students come from a diverse background and are on all different reading levels. They really enjoy hands on lessons, especially those that involve technology. They are very active and delight in working around the room, as well as, in groups.
Each individual learns differently, therefore, deserves the opportunity to let their light shine!
Many of my students do not have access to resources that are needed on a daily basis.
My students are very confident and share a strong sense of community because "Mistakes are proof that you are trying"!
My Project
Teaching...what an amazing experience! It is such a wonderful feeling when I see "that light bulb moment,” as well as, when my students are engaged in learning and having fun. This coming fall, I will still be teaching 5th grade. I will be teaching reading, writing, grammar, and spelling twice each day. The main struggle that I continued to have this past year was not enough technology. I have two student desktop computers in my class and our grade level (112 students) shares a laptop cart with 30 computers. There were many times when my students could not finish an activity/lesson/writing prompt because the laptops were needed elsewhere. I believe the Kindle Fire tablets will be a tremendous asset to our class. This will allow my 56 students to have access to technology at any time.
If this project is funded, it will complete a class set of Kindle Fire Tablets, providing each student a tablet to use individually during my class; this will allow me to integrate technology daily in my classroom!
My students continue to expand their knowledge by researching topics on the internet. It was extremely difficult with two computers and 28 students. I teach at an Arts Integration Charter School. Students are required twice a year to work on an in depth project, as well as, integrate the arts as much as possible in activities/lessons.
I took a technology class last year to further my education/experiences with technology in the classroom. I learned about many programs/techniques that I can incorporate in my daily lessons. My students enjoyed Scratch (coding), recording skits, as well as, writing/narrating/audio recording their own stories.
