This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Welcome to the world of a special needs preschool! As a special needs teacher, I am constantly searching for the best resources with which to better serve my very special kiddos. Of course, the needs are many and the materials available are few! I teach in an urban Milwaukee school with a high poverty rate.
The children in my classroom have a variety of special needs ranging from cognitive delays to cerebral palsy.
All of the students have needs in the area of communication.
We have recently begun spending time in the general education kindergarten classrooms. It has been an amazing experience so far! All of the students are learning empathy, kindness, and how to work together.
My Project
My students are very interested in learning about nature, especially animals! Living in an urban environment our students don't have many opportunities to experience nature first hand. Students may see different birds around the neighborhood but may not have given them much thought before.
Having bird feeders will be a fantastic way to participate in an engaging hands-on learning experience.
We need bird feeders, bird seed, and a bird bath to help start a bird sanctuary at our school. We also need a few bird identification books to expand our learning of the different types of birds that may come to our feeders.
The students can keep track of how many birds use the feeders and how many different types of birds come to the feeders. It will also teach our students responsibility when caring for the wild birds.
