We are a small rural school surrounded by beautiful landscapes and wildlife including towering cliffs, fields and farms, deer, eagles, and cows! We focus on Agriculture, Spanish, and my favorite: the Arts!
I've never met a group of young students with more compassion, drive, and creativity; they are truly inspiring.
These students are happy to be at school. They are eager to learn, excited to feel loved, and ready to create. I love providing a safe and comfortable place every day for my students to be vulnerable and expressive.
More than half of our families come from low-income homes. Many of them struggle to provide basic needs for themselves, so purchasing and learning a musical instrument is most often out of the question.
My Project
Music class is an integral part of a child's education. There are endless studies on the benefits of not only math and science but mental health as well. We love to play instruments at Tower Rock, but they are expensive! Sometimes we have to get creative, like banging on buckets instead of drums! I'd like to give students a chance to learn on something real.
Learning an instrument helps build confidence.
Not every student is comfortable using their singing voice, and not every family can afford an instrument. By providing a classroom set of instruments, I'm not only removing the burden of cost from families, but I'm also providing students a musical outlet aside from singing. (Don't get me wrong, we'll continue singing also!)
My students are creative and talented. I want to give them an opportunity to feel proud as well!
