Do remember what it was like when you were first learning to become an independent reader? The students I teach will be developing that skill this school year, but in order to become the best readers possible, their classroom library will need to be filled with appropriate fiction/nonfiction texts.
I am a teacher to an amazing, knowledge craving, precious group of second graders who attend a Title 1 school in a rural county in North Carolina.
It is a fairly large school that includes a wide range of grades, from Pre-K to 8th. Most of these students are with us from the time they enter their first educational setting until they depart for high school.
My Project
I am requesting various sets of books from a variety of reading levels. These texts will allow students to develop their literacy skills during both independent reading, paired reading, and guided reading. The fiction and nonfiction literature will provide students access to books where they can choose based on interests, implement newly acquired reading skills and practice those that were previously learned, increase their knowledge of the world as well as provide them with the opportunity to make text to self, text to text, and text to world connections.
As a teacher I strive to meet the needs of each individual student and your donations to these resources will definitely enhance each student's opportunity to build on their strengths and improve their weaknesses in literacy.
These books will help to build a love for reading that will be such an important factor in their educational journey for years to come.
