My students are excited to be great readers who respond to the story elements in their texts that they read. They are eager to show what they know about Story Elements: Main Character, Setting, Problem, and Resolution with their partners. They want more diverse books in our classroom to which they can relate! They want to see characters that look like them!
My students need diverse books to represent our classroom demographics!
My students love to read and collaborate with their partners about the amazing books they have read.
In a literary world where the average percentage of children's books that contain multicultural content is around 10%, I want my library to be more inclusive! I want diverse books that can be read year round, not just in February. We need books for every genre, not only Informational Texts, but fiction, mystery, graphic novels, anything! We need books with diverse characters!
The funding of this project would provide books for my classroom library that will honor and recognize the need for equity of characters that represent the diverse background of my students!
With your help, our classroom library can become a place where each and every student can have access to books that offer multicultural stories.
