Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A vibrant group of 25 Kindergarten students who are ready to learn! This is the first exposure to school for some of our students. We have 6 ELL students in our classroom with limited English proficiency and exposure. Our students represent different cultures, backgrounds, and skill levels and work together in a collaborative and motivated way.
Our students light up when they learn and we want to make sure we keep it that way!
We appreciate all of the help we can get to make our classroom everything they deserve.
My Project
Our students are just learning to read and need to be exposed to what makes reading so fun! The average students in Philadelphia are below grade level in reading due to their lack of exposure to different books, texts, and resources - at school and at home. In our classroom, our library is scarce. Students have a small selection of books and have been reading the same books multiple times during their independent reading corner time. We want to change the way they see reading!
We strive to make reading a comfortable, exciting, and fearless experience for our students.
By creating a space with comfortable seating options and books of various levels & topics, we hope to make this happen. We are asking for help to build our library and help our students remain excited about learning!
