This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school inspires all scholars to reach high levels of social and academic achievement and to become future leaders through a collaborative system of support. This school year, our building is putting a special emphasis on social achievement through staff professional development of social/emotional learning and new systems that will support our scholars needs. One system that will be improved is our classroom safe place centers.
The Safe Place is a center where children can go to change their inner state from upset to composed in order to optimize learning.
Following the Conscious Discipline Model, the safe place a centerpiece for self-regulation. Our hope is through this project we can support our classroom teachers in their efforts to provide safe and successful learning environments.
My Project
All the supplies asked for in this project will be divided evenly between 30 classrooms. Every class will get one supply box, one breathing ball, and one 2 minute timer. Teachers will be able to choose 3-4 fidget tools to fill their boxes.
Calm down tools will enhance each classroom's Safe Place, which is available to all students throughout the day to support self-regulation strategies.
During opening week training, our staff will participate in professional development around the Conscious Discipline approach and how to effectively set up, teach, and use the Safe Place throughout the school year.
Our buildings goals of supporting enhanced social emotional learning tools and strategies aligns with the districts guiding values of continuous improvement, collaboration, and achievement.
