We need a rug that is large enough to give each student a special place, and a bit of personal space too. We spend a lot of time learning together on our rug, but the one we have now is just too small.
I teach at a high poverty, Title 1 school.
There are 24 sweet Kindergarteners in my class, and many of them are attending school for the first time. Some students started Kindergarten not know any of their letters, but they are working so hard to learn all about their letters and numbers! They are a very energetic, enthusiastic group of kids, and this fun alphabet rug would help get them even more excited about learning!
My Project
You may not think a rug is such a big deal...after all we are only sitting on it. Imagine it through the eyes of five years old, and you will see what a difference it could make. This rug is bright, colorful, and very relevant to our main work in Kindergarten, learning to read! It would be a cozy, inviting spot for our class to meet and learn, as well as a special place for each student to sit. This rug would also help with classroom management. We have half day Kindergarten, so every second is precious! Valuable learning time is wasted while everyone looks for a good spot. If we had this rug, students who need it could be assigned a spot, and other students could quickly find a square. This rug would also provide a visual anchor for kids who have a hard time staying in one spot during lessons.
The rug is the central part of our classroom.
This bright, colorful alphabet rug would help increase our learning, and make our time together more fun! Please consider brightening the days of these sweet Kindergarteners by donating to our project!
