Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education resource teacher that serves 22 students in the Phoenix metropolitan area. My students come from Spanish speaking backgrounds and have different levels of exceptionalities, ranging from specific learning disabilities, developmentally delay, other health impairments, and Autism. My students are creative, caring, and hard-working. They come to my classroom ready to learn and discover. They love hands-on lessons, working in centers, and reading independently with the teacher. My students work hard to meet their academic goals.
My Project
As a special education teacher, it is my job to provide specialized instruction. My students need additional support to complement the instruction they are receiving in the general education classroom. Therefore, my instruction involves hands-on materials, tactile lessons, and project-based learning. In the classroom, I provide special education services and there is no place for storage. Most of our materials are stored on a bookshelf along with my school curriculum. I want to give our classroom manipulatives and materials a home that my students can easily access. The storage carts that I listed will allow my students to access these materials independently. The storage carts will allow transitions to go smoothly and will also alleviate space, making more room for hands-on and kinetic lessons.
