My students do not fit into boxes. They are creative, inspiring, and completely capable of accomplishing any and everything put in their paths! They care about each other. They fight for their beliefs.
My students have unlimited potential, but often need a little push to believe in themselves.
Every child needs a cheerleader, and I fully intend on being one of my students' cheerleaders this year.
This past year, I had the honor of teaching 7th graders and witnessed their potential and abilities firsthand. I'll never forget the time when one of my students told me he couldn't (and wouldn't) do the work, only to see him complete the work within 10 minutes. I knew he could do it, but it took me sitting down with him and working through every sentence for him to complete the work. He needed a cheerleader. Won't you be one too?
My Project
"I'm going to eat ice cream for dinner. I've had ice cream for dinner these last 3 nights," one of my students told me. "Why?" I asked, thinking this student just had a massive sweet tooth. Instead, I was met with, "We don't have any food in my house right now. Ice cream is all we have." My heart sunk. This, my dear friends, is why I am sucking up my pride and asking for help. Some of my students can barely afford food, so what makes me think all of them can afford something as simple as a notebook?
By providing notebooks for my students, you are enabling a child to receive the resources they need to succeed as confident writers.
Research suggests that students retain information better when writing on paper, not on laptops. While I am all for using technology in the classroom, I have found that only using technology in the classroom is a double-edged sword, as students are often more distracted while writing on screens. The majority of my lessons use technology, but I believe my classroom environment will be enriched by providing a diversity of ways to learn. A notebook is a simple way to keep students on task, and provides a place for them to keep their thoughts organized.
To us, it's just a notebook and a pencil. To my students, it is a resource and tool to further their future. Please help a teacher out!
