My students are a very active group of first and second graders. With a blend of two grade levels the dynamic of our class there is a wide spread of learners with different abilities and needs. My students are very social, and enjoy working together.
Our classroom is a place where all learners are welcome, and we have a built a sense of community together this year.
This group of students has been working hard to be in charge of their learning, and making responsible choices.
My Project
Having different options for seating in the classroom will increase student engagement, and make learning more fun! Students need to have movement throughout their day, it's proven that physical activity helps stimulate the brain and improve academic performance. With flexible seating my students will be able to get their wiggles out while still participating in an appropriate way.
Having flexible seating in the classroom gives students the ability to choose a place in the classroom where they feel they'll be most successful.
Though it may seem like a small decision, allowing my students to be in control of their learning space will be empowering to them! My students will be encouraged to take turns and share, and encouraged to engage in group or partner work with others in like areas of the classroom.
