What do elephants, giraffes and zebras have in common? They are some of my students' favorite zoo animals. My students love animals and would be thrilled to see them in person at the zoo. You can help provide this experience for my very deserving students and their families through this project.
I teach 21 energetic and eager to learn kindergarten children in a high-poverty school district.
Approximately 75% of my children receive free lunches. My students come to school everyday excited about learning and can't wait to find out what the day holds for them. They are thrilled to be learning to read! The students in my class learn best through hands-on activities. They love playing with their friends and are very social. Many of them face challenges outside of school, and I want to do all I can to give them engaging learning experiences while they are at school.
My Project
I am requesting a trip to the Cleveland Zoo! Our last unit of study in kindergarten is animals, and a trip to the zoo would make these lessons come alive. Generous donors on DonorsChoose.org funded a trip to the zoo for my kindergarten students last year, and it was AMAZING! I knew that it was a success when I had a grandmother come up to me and tell me how excited she was to come with her granddaughter because she had never been to the zoo herself. Children talked about it the rest of the school year! Not only will you be giving my kindergarten children the chance to experience the zoo, but you will give their families the chance to visit with them! This project will pay for a ticket for each child in my classroom, and an additional adult and child in their family. Children will go on a scavenger hunt through the zoo to find animals that we have studied. Upon returning from the zoo, we will journal about our experience and use pictures to create lasting memories of our zoo adventure.
