Our school serves 936 kindergarten through 5th graders from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. I provide math support to 70 students, grades 1-5. My students come from diverse and varied backgrounds. It is my hope that this project will provide them with leadership opportunities in the school.
Our entire school, including students, teachers, staff, parents, families, partners, and community, will benefit from this exciting project.
My 70 students will be leaders in the school because of their work and contribution to this super exciting project.
My Project
Our chickens are coming tomorrow! Teachers, students, parents, community partners and neighbors are working together to build a safe and secure chicken coop with a contained outdoor classroom. Our chickens and this project are adding excitement and engagement for my students by making learning real and meaningful.
Teaching and learning measurement on a worksheet cannot compare to measuring wood to build a home for our new chickens.
Reading to learn how to take care of our living chickens that will depend on us is a real reason to read!
My students will become school leaders as they: 1) work within a budget planning the build for the chicken coop, 2) budget and schedule the chicken care, and 3) communicate to the school about the project through morning video announcements.
The fencing material requested will define the chicken, outdoor classroom space by allowing inspired teachers to maximize the teaching opportunities from this project. They will be able to teach standards-based lessons connected to the chickens. The picket fencing will differentiate the classroom learning space from the other spaces outside.
