Our mission statement is to "support families and prepare children for success in school and in life.” Our school is located in Lansing, MI and serves families who reside in the Greater Lansing Area. Our school provides preschool education services for full day sessions. We provide a comprehensive preschool education for the children and families in this area. We have a total of 54 low income or at risk children in attendance at our school. The children and families who receive head start services represent a variety of cultural backgrounds.
We use Creative Curriculum.
This approach sets our classroom content based on the students interest and ability. All of our lessons are individualized to fit each child and their unique style of learning. Children learn best when they are truly invested in the topic. The more they can get a hands-on feel, the more information they will retain.
My Project
Early literacy is vital to future learning for children! Successful reading habits have proven to strengthen children's learning in areas of language, communication, thought and reasoning. By developing a space where children can come explore language and literacy in a fun, soothing environment we will provide them the basic tools to help learn reading can be fun. We carefully selected items that represent the children and their families of Head Start. We use creative curriculum, that teaches us to follow children and their interests. We will provide many books, with many topics and interest areas.
A beautiful library gives children the opportunity to experience the wonderment that comes with getting lost in a good book.
We would love to have reading benches and pillows so the children relax and enjoy their books. We found some soft lighting to make the room calm and quiet. Our vision for this room is children who come from the at risk neighborhoods will find serenity and peace within the walls of the room. We will also make this space available for families and teachers to meet and to have discussions regarding children's development, both emotionally and educationally. A calm, comforting place for all of our students to enjoy.
Studies show children who are living in stress put up learning barriers. They cannot learn if they are worried about situations that they have been put in. Building Kelsi's Learning Library gives the children, families and teachers a room to find peace and calm away from the outside world.
