Our school is a wonderful place beyond description. The students are caring, generous, helpful, and hardworking. In my class, my students are loving and care about one another. In quite a few years of teaching, this class is the most cohesive group of young children I’ve ever had. They help each other, encourage each other, and cheer each other on when things get tough. I have a group of kids who are ready and capable to do great things this year.
We serve students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and our population is almost entirely comprised of Title I students.
Title I means that the majority of students receive free breakfast and lunch. In our case, the vast majority qualify.
As rigorous standards become even more rigorous, teachers are looking for ways to incorporate motion into learning. Kids just weren’t designed to sit still in a chair all day, so why are classrooms still using hard-backed chairs in classrooms? We will use these seats as a flexible seating option for students who are “wigglier” than others, for students who feel they would learn better with more room to move, and for kids who tend to fall asleep. Eventually I hope to have 25 of these for my class, but as we know, money is tight. I’m looking to our community to help provide this wonderful opportunity for our students to put their learning into motion!
