Help me give my students loads of super cool rewards like: silly slippers, fancy crowns, sunglasses, fun pencils and pens, pencil toppers, erasers, bracelets, necklaces, decorations, and crafts to use as behavior incentives in our classroom.
My wonderful students are a diverse group of English language learners in Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade.
These amazing children come from all over the world, but most were born right here in the United States.
Most of my students come from low socio-economic homes where English is not spoken. Many of these students are the first in their families to attend school. Although they come from all different walks of life, the all share the same desire to learn and grow!
My Project
Ever hear the quote, "You'll get more bees with honey?" Well, where we come from, this quote couldn't be more accurate (especially when you're working with children)! We are firm believers that children become SUPER motived to work hard, persevere, make good decisions, and be better citizens when they can earn incentives and rewards in the classroom for their actions. These incentives give our students immediate positive reinforcement in the classroom. In our class, the students are able to earn tickets for doing great things. As their tickets add up, we allow them the opportunity to "cash-in" for fun and exciting classroom rewards like: Wear silly slippers in the classroom, wear sunglasses, choose a fancy pen/pencil/eraser, make a decoration/craft to share with the class, wear a bracelet/necklace, be a king/queen for a day, give a gift to another student, and/or earn a bookmark.
These rewards are simple and fun ways to reward and reinforce positive behavior in our classroom.
As their actions get recognized, they feel a sense of accomplishment and build self-esteem. The more the children strive to earn these rewards, the more automatic these positive behaviors become. Please help us get more "honey" for our little "busy bees. "
