This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher at a bilingual school in Washington, DC. The classroom is made of 25 students; 50% native English and 50% native Spanish speakers. This is my first year at this school and I am enjoying it so much. The school and community are really supportive of our dual-language program and I am very proud to be part of such a dynamic school.
All materials from the crayons to our teacher desks are up for student use. The classroom bulletin boards have been designed to display student work in different subjects, but also so that the vocabulary words are accessible to them always. The bulletin boards in our classroom are a constant revolving display of work. Our classroom bulletin boards are meant to be ever-changing, but our hallway bulletin board is meant to display our work as a class in both languages--but the problem is, we do not have one!
Your donations will purchase a much needed bulletin board for our classroom hallway. Our students are creative and passionate about their work. It can be very disheartening to have worked on a writing/research/art assignment for a week to see it on the floor, often ruined because the tape on the backside folded onto the front work; making the entire display often beyond rescue.
We need a bulletin board large enough to display the work of 25 students in two languages. With your help, the students will have a place to display their work in time for our American hero biographies in March!
