Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are sweet and love to learn! We teach at a high needs Title I school in Oregon. We have students that come from varying households including several that are homeless. We have diverse classrooms full of active, intelligent, and creative students. Our vibrant groups of students have diverse social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Most of our students are learning English as a second language. Although they face so many challenges, they always come to school happy and excited to learn so we want to support them the best we can!
Our school is where our students feel safe.
Our school is where they come to feel cared for and successful. It is where they come to grow. It is a place for them to discover their talents and reach their full potential.
My Project
This project will help us continue to provide healthy snack options to all eight of our kindergarten and first grade classrooms. All 200 of our kindergarten and first grade students need to start the school year in September with healthy snacks such as fruit bars, crackers and granola bars to keep them energized for learning all day long! These snacks would allow our students to have enough energy to keep on learning throughout the day and grow their brains! If we can make sure they get a snack, they will be able to better focus and really build the fundamental knowledge necessary in the fall and continue to be successful throughout the school year.
This project is important because our students have a very long day and need some different yummy snacks to help them stay engaged in their learning.
Giving these students a nutritious snack will help them to focus and be more willing to participate because they are not hungry during the long morning learning. Some of our students do not have food when they leave our doors, they depend on the breakfast and lunch served at school to eat. These additional snacks will be a great way to curb their hunger and give them the nutrition they need to boost their working memory and brains.
