My Students

I teach military kids on a military post. Our students are AWE-INSPIRING! Could you imagine moving every couple of years and always being the new kid in school? Could you imagine having one of your parents deployed for up to a year?

It's not easy being a military kid.

Yet, our students are resilient! Rather than dreading new experiences, many of them jump right in, facing the challenges head-on!

Last year, my students had a wide range of abilities—high-achieving, average, and below-level. Some were organized and had good work habits, while others struggled to stay on task. However, ALL of them were eager to learn and succeed.

My Project

How can we help students become more successful? One way is to be more organized. Students' desks are always too small for all of their books and supplies. Having a separate location—their chair back buddy pocket charts—for the books they are reading and their response journals will help students be ready for independent reading and writing. Instead of jamming everything into their desks, they will be able to have their supplies at their fingertips.

Cultivating readers is always at the forefront of teaching.

Let's help students be more organized and productive by spending more time reading rather than getting ready to read.
