I teach and inspire children in a low-income school located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. 100% of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch.
Although my students live in a gang infested neighborhood and face many other challenges, they continue to inspire me as an educator and they persevere by coming to school every day with a positive attitude and eager to learn.
My students are learning how to become fluent readers and how to read for pleasure. Having a classroom library with books and series that they love would be an amazing teaching tool to have.
We desperately need a bookshelf for the books in our classroom. Our books are currently in baskets on our classroom floor and window sill because we do not have enough bookcases/bookshelves to house our books. Not only is this is a safety hazard but it can also confusing for the students when choosing and putting away books they enjoy reading. My students need a safe and organized place where they can easily access the books they love to read. A bookshelf would provide that and it would also help our book last longer, preserving them for future students to use and enjoy.
