Have you ever visited a place that made you feel like you could do anything? That is the feeling I hope to capture for my students. I am a teacher of early childhood education in the capital of South Carolina.
Our students are a part of a community of inspiring, diverse, talented, and inquisitive children.
Our Title I school is a neighborhood school located in one of the largest districts in the state.
Students are kinesthetic and have a love for reading integrated with the arts to involve technology, music, and dancing. We celebrate diversity as each student has a different personality, talent, and style that adds character to the classroom and makes them special; one of the main reasons I love being an educator.
In second grade, students learn that authors write to persuade, inform, or entertain. The author's purpose is a very important concept for children to continue to learn more about as they progress in their grade levels.
Students will create multimedia or authentic books that will give them an opportunity to express how authors write, serving as the author themselves.
Students will present their projects (books) to the class. Their classmates have to figure out if their purpose in writing and creating their books is to persuade, inform, or entertain the reader. The stands will be perfect for this.
This project will provide a culturally responsive approach to students learning content standards in second grade they are required to master.
