Our Art Room Is SinkIng!

Help me give my students a sink for their art room. Right now we don't have a sink to clean our materials. The closest sink is two floors away and four flights of stairs.

My Students

My students are hardworking individuals that have been blessed with many talents. We are a culturally and financially diverse school located in South Boston. We are a small school with some big challenges in keeping our students with up to date with exposure to art education.

With rigorous ELA and math curriculum, SEL standards can be explored using therapeutic art materials that will allow students to express themselves in a unique way.

Students in our school community generally lack access to art and art materials outside the school day.

My Project

No one likes doing the dishes! In order for a home or kitchen to run properly supplies that are used everyday like dishes need to be clean and cared for properly. In our art classroom we are using paints and painting materials on a daily basis. These materials, in order to serve their purpose and to be available to the students need to be cleaned and cared for as well.

The nearest available sink for our art room is two floors away.

Having a portable sink will allow us to preserve the materials we have by properly caring for them. Sometimes it is four periods before I have the opportunity to wash brushes and palettes. Which can lead to brushes being stuck together and not available for use. A sink in our room will allow me use more materials like air dry clay which requires a lot of clean up time and water. It will also allow me to clean the molds used for these activities. Having a sink will allow me to show students how to care for materials which is essential for them to learn responsibility and feel like part of the community here at school.
