Our 1st Printmaking Experience! Help! So Excited!!!
My students need printing blocks to use with the new Conrad printmaking machine we just received for our classroom. We are so excited but have no printing blocks! HELP!
This project expired on February 15, 2014.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students have just gotten art back into the school after a 7 yr hiatus. Art is crucial for our students today as we are training students for jobs that don't exist yet. With social media and everything being visual, art is one of the most important subjects for students to be involved & learning.
Most of my students come from a multicultural, diverse population, mostly Title 1, Latino, Chicana/Chicano and African American.
They have not been exposed to much outside of the area even though we live in a very large metropolitan area. I want to expose them to as many art experiences as possible.
Students will use the printmaking blocks to learn about relief printmaking and how to use a printing press. We will do a lesson on Georgia O'Keeffe and study her floral paintings. Students will observe the works by Van Gogh as well and do a drawing of a floral still life that they will then transfer to a printing block to carve and print. They will learn how to use brayers and Speedball printing inks.
This donation will take our classroom from using crayons and markers to a fine arts classroom.
They will be able to have real art experiences and start building portfolios that will allow them to apply to the arts high school.
