Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students make me smile every day. They truly love learning about the French-speaking world and are excited about learning a new language.

For the first time in our district's history, my colleague and I will be leading a week long study abroad experience in Montreal this summer.

After morning language classes, students will explore French-Canadian culture through excursions and other activities where they can practice their French with native speakers!

Having access to tablets for additional practice or classroom collaboration keeps students on task and removes the temptation of checking their cellphones.

My Project

Now more than ever, proficiency in other languages is a valuable asset that sets students apart as they prepare for life after high school.

Online platforms such as Quizlet, Duolingo, and Quizizz, among others, provide students hands-on, collaborative practice and immediate feedback.

They also track progress and help students create new goals as they master concepts. I frequently use these activities as bellringers or exit tasks. Indeed, language learning today is so much more than repeating phrases and translating dialogues.

Our district recently acquired tablets for classroom use. Protective cases will reduce the risk of damage and multi chargers will keep the tablets ready for action throughout the day.
