My students live in a small city on the gulf coast of Texas. They are a diverse group and come from every socioeconomic level. Many speak more than one language but all have proven themselves as survivors.
Hurricane Harvey impacted them all by flooding their school and many of their homes.
Many of them lost all of their worldly possessions but have continued on with smiles and words of encouragement to each other. They have had to adjust to their new learning environment by dealing with tighter classroom spaces and facilities not entirely equip to housing so many children on a full time basis.
My Project
Many times students have injuries from home or become injured at school. These injuries may be minor but require heat or cold to help students be more comfortable in class so they can concentrate on their classwork. It's important for students to be in class and not miss important instructional time. By meeting some basic health needs for students, this helps them not to worry about their discomfort and to be focused on their classwork. Hurricane Harvey flooded their school and damaged all of the clinic appliances and supplies. Currently we are borrowing a microwave from the church and using a cooler for ice that has to be refilled daily with new ice from across the street. Thank you so much for your consideration!
