The middle school students who participate in the Others First (volunteer) group are beyond amazing!! These students put forth an intentional effort to put other people's needs ahead of their own in order to make our school and community just a bit better than it already is!
The cool part about this group is that we are organic in nature.
Each year the students decide causes that are near and dear to their hearts. We revolve our service projects around the students' brainstorming sessions.
As the year progresses and we complete more service projects, it is neat to watch them discover the intrinsic value of giving to others at an age when students typically have a difficult time thinking outside of themselves.
My Project
The Others First volunteer group desires to complete the following projects during the 2018-19 school year:
Literacy Project- We will install a Little Free Library in a neighborhood adjacent to our school to promote literacy to students in our feeder school program.

Children's Blanket Project- We will be making homemade blankets to distribute to critically ill children going into a life saving surgery. (fleece blanket kits)
Kits for the Homeless of Kansas City- We will partner with the Kansas City Police Department to distribute care packages to the homeless in our city. (fleece blankets and inspirational cards)
Suicide Awareness- We will create posters to hang throughout the school to make students aware of the suicide lifeline phone number and text option. (posters and sharpie markers)
Teacher Appreciation- We will put all of the teacher's names in a jar, and pull out three names to win a ten dollar gift card to Panera during Teacher Appreciation Week. (Panera Gift Cards)
