Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a public, charter school. I have a bright and eager to learn a group of 1st graders.
My school has a diverse population of students; many of whom receive free or reduced lunch.
A large proportion of students speak English as a Second Language. Many of my students have ADD and ADHD and would benefit from having these items in our classroom. Many of my students are still recovering from hurricane Irma and don’t have much in their own homes. They are so excited to come to school each and every day.
My Project
This projects’ objectives are to provide hands on play while gaining educational skills using Osmo’s award-winning gaming system in conjunction with student iPads. The Osmo system uses manipulatives to provide students with immediate feedback. This allows students to merge physical play with technological and academic skills. The pieces that are included in the Osmo gaming system can be used by students from preschool through 5th grade by using multiple difficulty levels. Through the use of different Osmo sets, students are able to expand their knowledge in STEM activities, math, reading, art, and coding. The system includes teacher lesson plans that can be expanded by creating “custom” albums. It also has the ability to support ELL students by using the additional languages that are available with the system.
Since technology is an important 21st century skill, it is imperative that we include this skill in as many ways as possible.
Osmo is a fun way to interact with technology that gets students excited about learning, while using their iPads in a new and creative manner.
Using the Osmo’s different sets encourages students to practice and improve the academic and technological skills that they will need in order to be successful in the classroom.
