Differentiation is key. My main goal as a teacher is to meet the needs of all my students. I strive to raise up those who are struggling and see the smile of achievement on their faces while encouraging my advanced students to always push further and never be complacent.
Our students are curious, clever, and motivated.
It is a French immersion school. First grade students are just learning the French language and the most important part of this grade is expanding their French vocabulary. The Osmo gaming system is a wonderful way for the students to interact with the French language and increase engagement during our English time.
My Project
The Osmo is incredibly versatile. I am always thinking of more ways I can use it in the classroom. Currently students are using the two I have during English stations. They are working in groups of 3 to 4 to practice their high-frequency words as well as blend and build words.
With more Osmos I will be able to have pairs of students practice grammatical concepts and vocabulary strategies by adding suffixes and prefixes to words, deciding which words would come first alphabetically, and separating contractions.
Technological resources in the classroom are critical for preparing students to be productive members of society.
However, far too often technology isolates students from their peers and from their environment. The Osmo is different in that it encourages students to work together to bridge the gap between reality and screen. The learning that students do with the Osmo is concrete and tangible. That means it sticks!
