Our school is a Title I school. We have a very diverse make up of our students consisting of 92% low income, 32% English Language Learners, and a 26% mobility rate. Being so close to a Naval base, we also educate many military families. All students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
Despite the many hardships these students encounter on a daily basis, they are very eager to come to school and learn!
Unfortunately, my students have very limited exposure to books in their daily lives. I want to give them exposure to fun, interactive, and engaging resources that keep them motivated to learn.
My students speak of their aspirations of what they want to be when they grow up. I have 27 future authors, teachers, and engineers. In an ever-changing world, it is my goal to be able to give them exposure to the tools and resources they can use in the future!
My Project
Osmo is a groundbreaking system that allows for interactive learning! My class has been fortunate enough to receive iPad's through donorschoose.org. While my students love being able to learn through different apps, I am looking to take learning to the next level. Osmo is one way we can do this!
My goal is to bring Osmo into the classroom so the students can use it for an interactive, collaborative manner.
The Osmo Genius Kits come with an attachable base to the iPad. There are letter tiles, shapes, and number tiles that come with it. There are different games for the students to play including Tangram, Words, Newton, Masterpiece, and Numbers. If the students are playing the Numbers game, they see the number pop up. They are then able to throw the tiles down in front of the mat and it projects it onto the iPad screen. Students do not feel pressured when coming up with the right answer. Osmo recognizes there are multiple ways to solve the problem!
I would love to bring tool into my classroom! It would help to promote critical thinking while allowing for the students to PLAY while learning! I would absolutely love your help in order to make this accessible for my students. Thank you for your consideration!
