Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Right now, many teachers use tablets to reinforce skills taught in the classroom. The same is true in my classroom, but these Osmo systems will revolutionize how we use technology, shifting back to a hands-on approach, which young children need.
In Silicon Valley, my STEAM school serves a truly remarkable group of socioeconomically disadvantaged students who genuinely love to learn.
Despite some of the hardships my students have faced, my class shows up ready to learn every day! They are a very caring bunch and I would love for them to see that other people (some they don't even know) care about them, too!
My Project
The Osmo system uses a reflector over the camera, so that the device tracks students' movement of game pieces. This system will allow my students to use manipulatives in conjunction with the iPads to strengthen learning and understanding. My students will work both collaboratively and competitively to play learning games on the iPads. Some students learn best while working along side their peers, while others thrive on competition. These systems will provide appropriate opportunities for both learning styles.
With these systems, my students can spend more time on meaningful math and spelling practice.
Students will be able to play a number of games, using a technology that is new to them. With time, I foresee the depth of understanding increasing in my students thanks to these Osmo systems.
