Osmo in Kindergarten: Hands-On Learning

My students need the Osmo Genius Kits so they can engage in exciting, technology based math and reading activities. Using technology to enhance their learning is a skill that is important for the years to come.

My Students

I have had the best class of kindergarten students this school year. They are not only bright, but show an interest in their education, their success and the people around them.

Class time is special.

We have students from all backgrounds, with a high migrant population and severe poverty. Yet, despite these odds, my students go above and beyond the expectations I have for them in the classroom. We are reading, we are writing, and we are mathematicians in the making! Because of my students' mindsets, they can do just about anything.

The foundation of our education begins in Kindergarten. My class is working on building the foundations in reading and in math. We work on building and strengthening number sense so that math can be a subject students love and can be successful at through college.

My Project

Kindergarten students are in a unique position to lay a foundation for a love of learning. To create this love, I believe my students deserve to have fun and learn skills that will enhance their education for years to come. Learning through technology based programs helps them become more prepared for the future.

Osmo is a hand-on learning experience in which students can learn through hands-on play.

The Osmo connects to an iPad and students use the interactive components in the Osmo Genius Kit to learn. My plan is to create a cooperative learning environment, in which students will solve problems through the Osmo programs as partners and problem-solvers. Osmo Genius Kit includes the Base for the iPad, Word Kit, Tangram Kit, and Number Kit. My students will use these kits to spell, calculate, create, problem solve in a way that is memorable.
