My Students

As a teacher at a low-income and high poverty school, I notice my students are faced with both good and challenging situations. To help them overcome the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. All the students at my school want a chance to enhance their learning and reach for the stars.

It's not about what it is; it's about what it can become.

Many of them are being raised in foster care, single-parent homes, or with a close relative. The demographics in the areas where they live are not conducive to acceptable learning. When my students walk in my door, I want them to identify their exceptional characteristics, develop positive self-esteem, and feel they are cherished. I want them to know that my classroom is a heartfelt, inspiring, and encouraging environment where creativity is encouraged through self-expression and imagination.

My students want to experience their learning using hands-on activities. When I provide an atmosphere of involvement, their learning increases tremendously. Your donation will help give us the materials to make great thinkers and make learning fun.

My Project

I encourage independence in the classroom. If I can teach children to think about a situation, solve a problem, and work cooperatively, I feel like I have prepared them for the rest of their educational journey. Using technology like the Osmo kits will help me to reach this goal in the classroom. Teaching kindergarten in an all-day program has a unique set of challenges. Incorporating technology into our daily schedule has been one of those challenges for me. With the materials in this kit, I will be able to integrate our iPads into our daily reading and math units. By incorporating projects that connect to our reading and math, students are able to make connections and extend their learning even further. Students will have the opportunity to use the materials in hands-on centers throughout the week. By exploring with the materials and using technology at the same time, students will solve problems, work with partners and in small groups, and extend their knowledge of new concepts
