OSMO, Coding & Sewing: Community Building Skills Working Together!

My Students

"Every child is entitled to an enriched education", that's the motto of our school. Providing an education for all students with equity and access, including those with disabilities, limited English proficiency, advanced independent learning skills, and educational difficulties is a challenging prospect.

My goal is to provide an environment conducive to hands-on learning in which students are encouraged to inquire, apply, and extend their understanding of the world through problem-solving and decision-making skills.

My students are academically diverse, bright, happy, and highly-motivated children. Many dream of being world leaders that will effect positive changes in society. My children and I work together to form a caring community within our classroom. They work together to maximize the feelings of success for the class. Being their teacher is a joy that I treasure!

My Project

Community building, what is it? It's been defined as: group activities that help people relax, get comfortable, move around and become at ease with each other. They help break down psychological barriers between people. These activities can even accelerate the process of inclusion in a group. With the OSMO genius system I will have my students working together to help and support each other in successfully completing the activities needed to advance to the different levels in this educational game.

Together they will celebrate success and inclusiveness with the contributions of their teammates.

The book-themed fabric squares will be used to create a class book with students picking their favorites and reading Dr. Seuss together and discussing their views as a group. They will write up a synopsis together and add it under the picture square in the book. Dr. Seuss writes stories that promote unity, radical justice themes and living in harmony even though we are may appear to have differences. His themes always circles back to how we are more alike than different.
