My students are growing and learning in the type of small, tight knit school community that inspired me to be a teacher. They are imaginative dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding writers, ambassadors, world travelers, scientists, and teachers. They are our future, and I want to give them a great start to their long, successful careers.
We are in a small farming/ranching community with few academic resources.
The closest Walmart is 25 minutes away. The community is family-oriented, although many families' incomes are below the line of poverty. Many homes have blended families or are single parent homes. The average class size is 12 students. We feel that the students deserve same quality of education and resources to maximize learners as schools who are not faced with the same economic challenges.
My Project
The iPad will be used as a reading/writing/math station that the students use throughout the day for technology purposes, focusing on STEM, literacy, math, and science skills. OSMO will help students work individually, and in small groups, to develop their literacy, math, and coding skills at their level. This link to technology will prepare students for applying their literacy and math skills to STEM through technology, which is a skill they will use the rest of their lives.
By donating to this project, you will be supporting boys and girls by opening the doors to technology in our classroom.
This technology will be used throughout the year in various ways. In the beginning of the school year, students will use the iPad and OSMO to review and learn new strategies and concepts in literacy and math. As the year progresses, the students will have access to Google Classroom, Epic, Study Island, OSMO along with many other apps. My objective is to have students on level by the end of third grade because statistics say if you are not prepared in vocabulary and reading level by the end of third grade, the student will continue to struggle the rest of their educational careers.
You will help make a difference because the school has no funds to purchase these additional resources. Once we have this technology it will impact every child that comes through this school. Please help me give these future adult the technology based beginning they deserve.
