My Students
I am very excited to be teaching at a new school this year. I am teaching first grade English- Language Arts to an amazing group of students. As shown with my school info, nearly all students come from a low-income family. I have learned that low income does not speak of the quality of students. I have some very intelligent, very eager to learn students. Across the nation, schools are struggling to provide resources the students need due to state and federal budget cuts. My students deserve the best, and I am their advocate to make sure they get the best. We are making huge strides to improve in all aspects and the students deserve to have new books, new pieces of technology, and new life experiences to further help them succeed in school and life.
My Project
For years, I have struggled to teach struggling readers how to read. About a year and a half ago, I was introduced to the multi-sensory approach of teaching reading based on Orton Gillingham methods. I am amazed at the results I've seen with just implementing a few of the strategies. I would like to have more Orton Gillingham resource to study so I that I learn more multi-sensory methods to reach my dyslexic students as well as struggling readers. Eventually, I would like to attend the comprehensive professional development conference, but I want to work my way up to that point since it is such a costly conference. I am asking for 9 of the educator manuals to study these methods inside and out, so I will be ready for next school. I would like to get these resources soon, so I can begin implementing what I will learn as soon as possible. I think one of our jobs as educators is to stay educated as much as we can on new methods to reach our children. Please consider helping me further my education.
