Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The kindergarten students in my classroom are always willing to take on a challenge. They are motivated, loving, and hardworking! My school services low income families that don't always have access or transportation to get their children to services they may need. As an educator I want to try to bridge the gap during school times for my struggling readers to find new strategies to help improve their learning on a daily basis. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.By taking the IMSE Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Training I will be better able to help my students in achieving their goals of learning and reading. Creating a strong foundation for reading skills, is important in kindergarten in order to help future success. Help me learn new skills to improve my students abilities and challenge them in learning new skills.
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher in Paterson I am faced with challenges on a daily basis. Even though preschool is free in my district not all students go and their first experience of school is in kindergarten. Some families are unable to assist their children at home because of a language barrier or because they are working multiple jobs to make ends meet. I need to be able to support the needs of my students on various levels.
Orton-Gillingham training will allow me to learn new strategies to support literacy education and set a strong foundation.
I want to be able to help my little learners in ways that help students with learning disabilities because having the lesson taught in another way will benefit all not just the child your are focusing on teaching. A strong literacy bases for my students will help me in teaching them without frustration. As an educator I am always looking for ways to improve and support academics in my class. This training will help me by teaching me how to support my students who are struggling and need a little more time or another method to learn. Help me help my students.
