Orkin Science Station: a weekly YouTube production about insects!
My students need supplies to PUBLISH a weekly YouTube Science Channel called: the Orkin Science Station. To publish, they need a grass rug (to make a realistic set), a micrsocope, insect samples and a microphone.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in Los Angeles where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students start the day, every day, hopeful of what we will learn in class that day.
I ask them, "Why did you come to school today?" and they reply, "To change the world!" My students know that I believe in them and that with passion, determination, and a positive outlook of their potential they can be anything they want to be.
All of my students qualify for complimentary school district provided meals, before, during and after school. Despite so many challenges, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
We want to have a new YouTube publication: a weekly science report dedicated to all things INSECT! Our class already is fluent in publishing their work daily onto the class youtube page. We have a YouTube channel that students go home and watch every day with their families and friends. They publish videos about interviews with friends and family, stories, their art, daily weather reports, their scientific research, and experiments- just about anything that they want to share with the world!
Insect experiments, insect questions, insect observations, insect research, and insect-inspired stories will be part of this weekly report.
Students will use screen capture software to mark up their pictures of the insect news, and they will use the high-quality wireless microphone to capture the audio portion of their report.
We will create a TV set experience, replacing the old carpet with a large synthetic grass carpet. Students will be at the front of the set (the room) and create their presentations, record it and publish it to YouTube.
They will use their new microscope and their new slides to observe insect specimens. The digital camera connected to the microscope will allow the insect images to be displayed on the class smartboard to be discussed in student-led collaborative groups.
As part of the Insect news, we will invite real professionals to visit our class as GUESTS on our YouTube Orkin Science Station. Students will write letters to invite these guests, including entomologist and biologists from the local research universities (UCLA and USC,) the school plant manager who deals with pests, the local garden supplier down the street, and the Orkin Man who will talk about pest control and further spark the class's passion for
