Mrs. Kearney (Struckel) from Roxbury MA is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need ways to organize our materials to make the most of our very small learning space! File folder/document organizers, an over-the-door organizer, and literature organizers will be very helpful!

My students are incredible! My students are in kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grade. They are curious, inquisitive, hard-working, and dedicated. All of my students have Individualized Educational Plans because they have been diagnosed with a disability. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. All of my students come from high poverty areas and they all love coming to school. My students are brilliant individuals who learn differently than their peers. These students will be successful and it's my job to create learning opportunities that ensure this.
My office is used as a classroom for up to ten elementary school students at a time and I see about 40-50 students a day depending on the day. When I have groups of ten and myself in there we are very cramped! Students often complain about the lack of space but unfortunately there really isn't anywhere else for us to go in the building. Add in the amount of foot traffic in and out of this classroom and we do our best to stay organized, but it is extremely difficult!
Organizing the materials within our classroom will help us be able to maximize our small space and learn more!
The file folder/document organizers will help clear up some paperwork clutter as well as the literature organizers. It will also help us have access to everything at all times opposed to me having to find a custodian to let me into a special locked closet for items like construction paper, project paper, sheet protectors, folders, etc.
Students will also benefit immensely from these items because student materials such as books and manipulatives will be more visible and accessible for students. Students often ask me to borrow various items but I always need to tell them that I will have to dig them out or get let into the storage closet before they can use them. Organizing our classroom will allow me to get more materials in the hands of students and at a much quicker turnaround!
In addition, students will benefit from being able to organize their folders and flashcards in the pocket charts I requested.
