Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you know the feeling of opening so many gifts at your birthday party and wondering what you're going to do with everything and how it will all fit nice & neatly together? Now that we have gotten so many wonderful supplies from Donors Choose, we need a storage system to keep us neat and organized.
My six wonderfully diverse middle school students with autism face many challenges in the world.
They attend a specialized school in a high poverty neighborhood in NYC. They all have limited social skills as well as significant language deficits in both expressive and receptive language. The majority are non-verbal and communicate by alternate mode.
My Project
Who can learn in a classroom where supplies are everywhere and at the same time, nowhere? Without a storage system, we can't easily find what we are looking for. The storage system that I want to put together for my class will help my students stay organized. They will be able to view the items in the containers that are needed to complete their tasks. They will be able to become more independent by being able to get the materials they need and put them away when their tasks and projects are completed. Staying organized for students with autism is crucial. It helps them stay calm and when they are calm, behaviors are minimized. When the behaviors are minimized, my terrific students are more likely to become successful.
We are in need of storage systems in my class to help my students stay focused and organized.
Knowing where their task supplies are will allow them the opportunity to get them themselves, complete the tasks, and return their own supplies.
