My students come to school every day (with 98.4% attendance) in a diverse, low-income, urban community. The demographics of my school includes Asian, African American, Latino and Caucasian students. One goal, as a school community, is to focus on the whole child. My classroom is dedicated to tolerance and humanitarianism. I focus my lessons on the human experience to instill empathy into my students in hopes to create a better world for their generation and generations after. We utilize a vast range of texts, sources, and technology that is available to further understand our world and the responsibilities of a citizen of the United States. I want my students to continue to ask deeper questions about their world, analyze perspectives of others, and be able to support their ideas with evidence.
My Project
We need areas in the classroom to become better organized for student productivity. Currently there is nowhere for students to house projects they are working on in the classroom. This has led to projects being tampered with, accidentally broken, and a messy classroom. Additionally, students need a place to find missing homework assignments for the week and an area to find materials that need to go home to their families. With these new shelves and organization areas, students will have specific places to find and house their materials, which will lead to more class time dedicated to learning and better projects year round.
