A chance. A challenge. A call to raise expectations. This is what drives my students every day. My classroom is full of eager 4th and 5th-grade students, ready to activate their minds and meet new goals.
My classroom is filled with a diverse group of learners, all of whom are in an accelerated program.
They are seeking out new understandings and new ways to activate their minds. They are continuous in their quest to quench their thirst for knowledge. They are relentless and determined to raise the bar and exceed the expectations that have been put upon them.
With much of education geared toward meeting the needs of struggling learners, my students often come to me starved for attention. Fourth grade is the first year where these students receive an enriched curriculum. It is the first year they are able to stretch to their full potential and feel the push they have been missing.
My Project
The students in my class are avid readers and writers. They tear through books, wanting to slip into new world. They thirst for knowledge and push themselves to read a wide variety of genres. They read and reread their past writing pieces and want to share their writing with others. However, it isn't always easy to navigate our extensive classroom library or our writing portfolios.
Help our class organize their reading and writing so that they are able to find great books and share their own compositions.
To organize our reading lives, we need Sterilite containers to organize our classroom library by genres, authors, and interest groups. These containers will be labeled to help students find exactly what they are looking for easier, allowing them to slip into the world of books quicker.
To organize our writing, we need a hanging file system to display our portfolios of our own compositions. This system would allow classmates to organize their writing samples and share them with others. They would see their progress throughout the year, use each other as writing mentors, and build a portfolio for their learning.
