Students are scholars at our school. We are a diverse school, serving scholars of various socioeconomic and ethnic diversity as well as levels of academic achievement backgrounds. Despite their differences and hardships, our scholars are determined and motivated to do their best. They need to feel safe, wanted, and respected to keep being motivated and engaged in school.
Scholars need access to supplies and technology to stimulate their creativity and foster an authentic love of learning and exploring.
Our school is a Title I school, and all of our 400+ scholars receive free breakfast and lunch.
The cost of supplies can add up quickly, especially when your scholars are extremely enthusiastic about learning. My scholars love hands-on, tactile projects where they can create and manipulate objects. To help engage them in learning, I want to provide them with as many resources and supplies for these types of experiences as I can.
My Project
A great way to engage scholars in STEM/STEAM and PBL (Problem Based Learning) is by involving a makerspace. Makerspace is a space that allows people to engage in creative ways to make something. Tools, supplies, and storage for them all enables us to have a makerspace. A makerspace is a place where students can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials, all of which is highly valued and necessary for STEM instruction. My students need the ability to have a makerspace to further explore their own ideas and have a deeper level of engagement in the lesson.
A space where kids have the opportunity to make and use their hands will increase academic growth and achievement for scholars.
That is what my students need. To do so, we need a cart with drawers, shelving for storing projects, and a utility drawer to help us keep smaller objects organized. These items will help us keep all our Makerspace items organized and together, allowing students the ability to create and explore their ideas with others.
SuperScience STEM Instant Activities, STEM Challenges Learning Cards - Seasonal and Regular - are meant to help facilitate guided STEM and STEAM activities that can be incorporated in Reading and Math. The propellers and wheels packs are to aid scholars in their STEM creations for force and motion.
