This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This community has been greatly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Our families have lived in tents on the property of the city's civic center, moved in with relatives, and stayed at local hotels. Prior to the storm, this was a low socioeconomic area. With the loss of housing and even some jobs, it has gotten even worse.
Through all of the setbacks, we have the best little school around.
Our students are smart and very eager to learn. They come to school daily with a willingness to become better students. There is a clear team with the parents as well. They are willing to do whatever it takes to help the students be successful.
My Project
Although students are asked or required to bring certain supplies to school daily, that does not always happen. It is not all the fault of the students as their parents are simply not financially able to do so. For that reason I would like to continue to supply basic materials in a classroom set.
This supply cases will allow us to house the classroom materials and ensure that there are enough colorful pencils to continue to create the interactive journals.
There are always foldables or lab sheets that we need to add to the journals as the students are essentially creating their own person Science books. There is always a need for tape to keep up with the daily demands.
