I teach French at an urban 9-12 high school where my students come from diverse backgrounds, many of which do not look like me. However, we all share a passion to learn about the French culture, language and history of the French speaking world. I am fortunate to be able to have many of my students in French class for 2-3 years and because of that, am able to create a unique, positive classroom climate where all students feel welcome.
My Project
My classroom is fortunate to have several subscriptions to French magazines, however we do not have a way to organize the magazines. Right now, students sort through stacks of magazines. By getting magazine racks it will give students the sense of being in a library and they will be able peruse the different choices, in a visually appealing way, and select the one that interests them. In addition, the magazines will be stored in dry erase pockets to keep them from getting damaged when they are stored on the magazine racks. These organizational tools will help students spend more time reading in French.
